BRIEF HISTORY OF HTC

Holy Trinity College of General Santos City (HTC) began with a dream rooted in music and education. In February 1982, Dr. Consejo S. Albano and Madame Gertrudes T. Albano envisioned opening a music school, which became a reality with the establishment of the Albano Piano Studio in June 1983. Their vision soon expanded to formal education, and on March 28, 1984, they began planning the Holy Trinity Pre-School. By School Year (SY) 1984–1985, the pre-school opened with 28 pupils under the leadership of Madame Gertrudes Albano. Over the next few years, the institution steadily grew, adding nursery, primary, and intermediate levels, and changing its name to Holy Trinity School in 1986. In SY 1988–1989, the High School Department was opened, marking a major step toward becoming a full-fledged academic institution.

A landmark milestone came in May 1989 when Holy Trinity College of General Santos City was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a non-stock, non-profit educational institution. Under the leadership of its first college president, Capt. Josemar T. Albano, HTC launched its College Department with four programs: BS Criminology, Bachelor in Secondary and Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts, and BS Commerce. From an initial batch of 124 college students, the institution grew rapidly, expanding its program offerings and facilities. In the early 1990s, technical-vocational courses were introduced, the three-storey Old College Building was completed, and HTC celebrated its first batch of college graduates in 1992. The decade that followed brought further academic advancements with the addition of graduate programs such as the Master of Arts in Education, new undergraduate degrees, and the completion of major infrastructures like the New College Building and the Basic Education Building.

HTC’s commitment to excellence extended into the 2000s, with accreditation milestones, national licensure board topnotchers, and the establishment of partnerships such as the BAR Review Center and international programs like the American Field Service (AFS). In 2007, Rey T. Albano was installed as the third college president, ushering in a new era of growth marked by land acquisition for future campuses, including the now pivotal Trinidad Complex. The institution earned recognition from CHED and gained ISO certification for its Quality Management System. Throughout this time, HTC flourished both in academics and athletics, with the HTC Wildcats dominating local and national PRISAA and PCCL competitions, and the Enactus Team representing the Philippines in world championships.

In the 2010s, HTC’s influence continued to rise. It introduced new programs, produced board passers and national champions, and hosted national academic gatherings like the Social Science Congress. Notably, the institution’s Enactus Team made it to the world stage multiple times, and HTC earned the TESDA Kabalikat Award. Amidst all this, HTC remained committed to green education, digital transformation, and research excellence, with faculty participating in international conferences and research projects across Southeast Asia. Infrastructure also expanded with the construction of the Senior High School Macario-Catalina Building, the GoodHoly Arcade, and the JTA Building.

Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, HTC remained resilient. With the adoption of flexible learning modalities, the launch of its own Learning Management System, and the introduction of diploma programs under the Philippine Qualifications Framework, the institution continued to serve its students without interruption. It also sustained its accreditation achievements, launched wellness programs for its personnel, and celebrated milestones like its 35th founding anniversary. More recently, HTC secured government recognition for new academic programs, continued its tradition of excellence in sports and academics, and resumed limited face-to-face classes.

Governed by the Albano family and a committed Board of Trustees, Holy Trinity College stands on the foundation of strong values and visionary leadership. What started as a simple piano studio has transformed into one of Mindanao’s most respected educational institutions. With a current population of over thousands of  students, HTC continues to live out its mission of academic excellence, service, and holistic development. True to its identity as the Home of Talents and Champions, HTC proudly embraces its “Proud Past” while boldly moving toward a “Strong Future.”
